Play, train, eat
At the zoo, we tailor the food precisely to the needs of our different animals. However, this does not mean that they are always simply served everything. Sometimes they have to work for their food. This not only trains their muscles and dexterity, but also keeps them occupied and - quite obviously - fun.
Spherical armadillo ultrasound training
The International Day of the Armadillo is celebrated on 13 August. These exciting mammals have inhabited the earth for over 50 million years. On World Armadillo Day, you can watch a video of ultrasound training with the female armadillo at Frankfurt Zoo. The special thing about this subspecies is that they can curl up completely into a ball. This offers good protection against predators, but makes it more difficult to check their state of health, as the ventral side remains hidden.
Two offspring for the Mhorr gazelles
In mid-June, the highly endangered mhorr gazelles had two offspring. The two young animals spent the first few days mainly sleeping and well hidden in their large enclosure. They are now travelling with their mothers in the enclosure, which the mhorr gazelles share with the Addax antelopes.

Four orangutans escaped from the Borgori forest on Tuesday, 17 June, at around 2.30 p.m. After just over an hour, they were all back in the safe animal house. The zoo was evacuated. Neither people nor animals were harmed. The zoo was able to reopen at 3.45 pm.
Welcome, N'DOGO!
The two-year-old bongo bull came to us on the Main from @wowsafaripeaugres in mid-May. Here he meets our cows PILI and KAWANA. After almost four weeks in quarantine, N'DOGO was allowed to explore the enclosure for the first time yesterday. He was able to get to know KAWANA a little.
Mixed doubles: The tiger cubs at Frankfurt Zoo are introduced
On 20 February, eleven-year-old Sumatran tigress CINTA gave birth to cubs. Since then, the zoo's cat jungle has been closed to allow the tiger family as much peace and quiet as possible. The cubs, one female and one male, have developed splendidly and have grown considerably. Now it's time to get to know the visitors.
