Offspring of the endangered Leine's geese
Greylag geese have been living at Frankfurt Zoo since 2022. They belong to an old domestic farm animal breed that was thought to be extinct in the early 1990s. Since the end of last year, the zoo has been committed to preserving this robust land goose as part of a breeding programme. With success: the first offspring were born in mid-April.
Yoga at the zoo - relaxing for species conservation
Exercise, relax and do something good - all this is possible with yoga at the zoo. To the sounds of exotic songbirds and amidst the jungle greenery of the free-flight hall, participants experience a very special yoga class under the guidance of a qualified teacher. Part of the proceeds go towards the protection of Asian songbirds.
Farewell to lion KUMAR
A few days before his 19th birthday, the zoo had to say goodbye to lion KUMAR yesterday. The very old tomcat had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time and had deteriorated considerably in recent months due to his age. After his condition took an acute turn for the worse over the weekend, the zoo team made the decision to put KUMAR to sleep.
Nursery in the cat jungle: tigress CINTA has had another offspring
On 20 February, eleven-year-old Sumatran tigress CINTA gave birth to cubs. The cubs can only be observed by the zookeepers via a monitor showing camera images from the whelping box. They appear healthy and are being well cared for by their mother. To allow the animals to rest, the cat jungle is temporarily closed.
City council gives the green light for the zoo of the future
On 3 February, the city council approved the future development of the zoo in terms of construction and content on the basis of this master plan. Subject to the approval of the city council, the decisive step has thus been taken to enter the first of three realisation phases.
New offspring among the okapis
Good news from the zoo at the beginning of the year: the okapis gave birth again in the run-up to Christmas. On 5 December, 21-year-old ANTONIA gave birth to a female cub. This is the second birth at Frankfurt Zoo of the forest giraffes, which are categorised as "critically endangered", within six months.
The zoo asks you to observe the ban on firecrackers around the zoo grounds on New Year's Eve
When people loudly welcome in the New Year, it can be unpleasant for the zoo animals. The sudden bangs can cause them stress and fireworks and other pyrotechnics can cause fires. To minimise the risk, the zoo deploys a fire watch on New Year's Eve and asks all residents to observe the current ban on firecrackers.

Frankfurt Zoo to be connected to the district heating network
The city council has decided to enter into contract negotiations with the energy supplier Mainova to connect the zoo to the district heating network. This brings the city a big step closer to its goal of making Frankfurt climate-neutral by 2035.
